Music on the Web
On Tuesday, August 4th, my husband John and I attended the ZZ Top concert at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. It was a great concert and as any web surfer would do, I looked them up on the Internet after seeing them in person (well almost). Of course, I found them at http://www.zztop.com. Their website is pretty basic but interesting. They have their '97 concert schedule posted, so if you missed them Tuesday night you can still catch them somewhere else. You can download an audio clip from Rhythmeen while you're there. Here's what ZZ Top says about their '97 tour:
Unlike previous tours, this one is less about production and more about the blues-tinged rock n' roll that has kept ZZ TOP at the forefront for three decades. The band describes their show as a "no-frills, full-thrill presentation - streamlined and down 'n' gritty." The set, highlighted by the "mean rhythm" of their latest RCA album, Rhythmeen, also includes many of the ZZ TOP classics that audiences demand.
These days, when you purchase a CD of your favorite artist, it may include a multimedia format. This means you can play the CD in your computer's CD player (as wel as in your stereo) and do more than just listen to music. For instance, it may let you play with the mixing controls, just like the guys at the concerts. Or it may have you get on the Internet and access the artist's web site. Aerosmith's latest CD, "9 Lives" is a mulitmedia CD. When you buy one of these CDs you are getting a lot more for your money than you used to.
Aerosmith also has a home on the web at http://www.aerosmith.com. The web site has a lot going on. They have a "cyber theater" where you can watch clips from various tour stops. They also have a lot of tour photos to look at. You can check tour information to see where they will be next and best of all, they have a chat room on the web site.
If you're into country music, Garth Brooks has a web site entitled Planet Garth. You can find Planet Garth at http://www.roughstock.com/planetgarth. The site has a multimedia section with video and audio clips, Planet Garth chat room, and links to Garth Brooks newsgroups. This website is very extensive. I really enjoyed surfing through it even though I've never really been a Garth Brooks fan.
If you are just looking for music web sites in general, there's always MTV at http://www.mtv.com and for the country fans there is Roughstock (the ones that created Planet Garth) at http://www.roughstock.com. Rough Stock was voted "The Best Country and Western Site on the Web" by Yahoo! Internet Life.
These sites should keep you busy surfing for awhile but remember, summer will be over soon, so don't forget to go outside and enjoy it!
